Feminist Biblical Analysis

I am an active member of the Newton Centre Minyan, an egalitarian and lay-led Jewish congregation in Massachusetts. Each Shabbat (Saturday) we read a portion of the Torah (the Five Books of Moses) as well as a short excerpt from the Prophetic or other Writings in the Bible. As a feminist, I grapple with many parts of the Biblical heritage. This page includes a number of “drashot” (sermons or teachings) that I’ve offered in my congregation over the years.

These teachings were created as oral presentations. I’ve added in translations of Hebrew words as well as a few clarifications to improve readability and to make them accessible for readers not familiar with Jewish terminology.
